As
a ranger you will be a valued member of the senior section of GirlGuiding New Zealand,
fully involved in the organisation and running of your own unit.
You should
be someone who is prepared to accept and live by the Guide Promise, a young woman
ready and willing to develop new relationships, to work on her leadership skills,
to experience new challenges and to have fun. Does this sound like
you? Or like the you you'd like to be? Well then, it could be that rangers
is for you. Rangers offers a wide variety of opportunities and a chance
to learn new skills and increase your confidence. There is even an option to develop
your leadership skills in a more practical way, by working with younger girls
involved in Guides New Zealand. The ranger programme is divided into 12
points. 12 Point Challenge
This challenge is an opportunity to cover all the 12 points of the programme
each year and each point has heaps of activities you can choose from. To earn
this challenge you need to complete one activity from each of the twelve points
each year. The completion of this challenge is assessed by you and your peers. Interest
Certificates Each interest certificate fits into one of the twelve
points of the programme. Some examples are:

pole and roll, Wheelpower, Boating skills
- Contemporary
Issues - Driver awareness, Sexual awareness, Social issues, Safeguarding
- Dynamic Health - Fit and healthy,

Qualifications
Qualifications Leadership,
Expedition, Exploration, Camp - These qualifications build your leadership skills
and can be challenging and fun to achieve. Higher
Awards These awards are achieved by young women who show commitment,
initiative, enthusiasm, effort and 'stickability' over a reasonable period
of time. The awards are not competitive, and are designed for those who are willing
to accept new challenges and give it their best. Peak
Award
An important step towards completing the Queen's Guide Award. You will need six
certificates and have done 20 hours voluntary work in the community (this could
also be helping in another guide section). Marketing
Certificate The Marketing Certificate is a requirement
for the Peak Award and the Queen's Guide Award. You will learn about market research,
building relationships with your community and learn to work with others including
younger girls. As a project you will focus on marketing and selling Guide Biscuits
in your community. Red Shield General's Award
An award for girls belonging to the Salvation Army or anyone interested in exploring
faith. Young New Zealanders' Challenge of The Duke
of Edinburgh's Award This is a world wide non-competitive activity
programme that encourages the creative use of leisure time which you may choose
to do this through the ranger section. You can develop an existing interest/skill
as you work towards this award, or to try completely new interests. The award
is at three levels, bronze, silver and gold [click

Queen's Guide Award
GirlGuiding New Zealand's highest award for girls/young
women. This commands the highest standard of effort and personal achievement.
In working towards this you'll develop leadership, communication and citizenship
skills and, at the same time, experience the enjoyment and satisfaction of reaching
your goals. This award needs to be completed by the time you turn 18.
